A Joy Division fan MySpace has announced the soundtrack for upcoming Ian Curtis biopic Control, and we can't wait to hear how these moody alternative foundations will be utilized. The MySpace blog notes that the instrumental bits by New Order provide ambiance for the last third of the film and "consist of Hooky's trademark bass lines, some sparse drumming from Morris, and Sumner playing what sounds like a flute sound on a mellotron - not particularly in the style of Joy Division, which was previously mooted."
As for the cast version of Transmission, photographer Kevin Cummins -- soon to release an extremely limited edition book of Joy Division shots -- recently wrote this one positive statement among a barrage of criticism: "This gig footage - with actors playing live on stage - are the parts of the film that really worked for me. So authentic is the sound that at one stage I thought it was a Joy Division recording with Sam Riley (who plays Ian Curtis) singing over the track."
In other news, NME reports that Joy Division's highly-accessible single "Love Will Tear Us Apart" will be re-released next month, shortly after the Sept. 10 reissuing of Unknown Pleasures and Closer. The song last made UK's Top 20 in 1995 after Curtis' suicide.
