The Rock to become part of the Mountain

It's kind of a slow news week as far as films are concerned, with everything transitioning from the blockbuster fare of the summer to the Oscar-baiting of the late fall and winter. Which means that the most important thing to report on is what's going on in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's career.

Variety reports that the actor, famous for portraying the ever-so-shiny Scorpion King in the Mummy franchise, has signed on as the star in an upcoming Witch Mountain movie. The original Escape to Witch Mountain told the story of twins with supernatural powers who need to, you guessed it, escape to Witch Mountain or be caught by some witch hunters. In the end, it turns out they were aliens. You really can't make this stuff up.

The Rock's part in the film will be a Las Vegas cab driver who picks up a pair of twins with magical powers. From here the film picks up after the 1975 film's storyline, though it's unknown whether the rather nonsensical sequel, Return from Witch Mountain, will figure into things or be dubbed non-canonical.
