Walk the Line and Ray were serious, mildly exploitative meditations on the lives of musicians who touched the nation. But they weren't that much fun, so it's a nice contrast to see the upcoming John C. Reilly film, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and its telling of the greatest fictional music history since Spinal Tap...
...or maybe not.
The high point of the trailer may be when Jack White as Elvis Presley approaches Reilly, which doesn't elicit laughs so much as the question, "Why is Jack White playing Elvis in the first place?" At least it's a fascinating trailer, if not too enticing, and still looks better than if the Scary Movie folks got it into their heads to make a bad musician biopic parody. Written and produced by Hollywood's current golden boy Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) and Jake Kasden (Orange County), who also took up directorial duties, the film will be out on December 21.
