Soon, very soon, the sweet and supple moan of Antony Hegarty shall be heard again.
Best known to most as the leader of Antony and the Johnsons, Hegarty recently updated his website with news on the forthcoming Johnsons record. Apparently, the successor to 2005’s Mercury Prize-winning I Am a Bird Now “is mostly tracked now,” with mixing soon to begin.
"I am spending my days editing and mulling over different versions of each song, trying to figure out what goes where," writes Antony.
Incremental progress, to be sure, but we always love to hear about what’s cookin’ in Antony’s freaky, beautiful kitchen.
For those more interested in completed Johnsons material, be on the lookout for the soundtrack to the Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There, due out Oct. 30. Antony contributes what he calls a “slow and minor” take on Dylan’s immortal ballad “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.” Mr. Hegarty joins an incredible assemblage of talent on the all-covers soundtrack, including the Hold Steady, Sufjan Stevens, Cat Power, and many more.
The film itself is coming to theatres Nov. 21. Hopefully by then there will be more news on Johnsons Album #3 to report...
