Once a year in Cleveland, Ohio, the neckties come off, the paperwork goes on hold, and the repressed office drones bust out of their claustrophobic cubicles. Eight bands, each composed of employees from a different corporate monolith, come together in a rock 'n' roll deathmatch known as the Fortune Battle of the Corporate Bands. Finally, some musical groups who admit that they're corporate tools rather than trying to overcompensate in the opposite direction.
Now in its seventh installment, the corporate smackdown will take place Oct. 5-6 at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. This year's seven finalists (narrowed from a field of 41 hopefuls) represent a wide array of corporate interests, making the festival sort of like a Bizzaro World Fortune 500 conference.
