CMJ festival announces screenings/concerts

The CMJ (meaning the College Music Journal and not the equally awesome Computer Music Journal) Music Marathon and Film Festival announced much of its lineup yesterday. The five-day festival's claim to fame is the way it mixes concerts with screenings and so far this year's looking pretty bright, with performances by M.I.A., St. Vincent, Deerhunter, Meat Puppets, Xiu Xiu and several hundred (that's right, hundred) other artists. Films announced so far include Run, Fat Boy, Run, Vince Vaughn's Wild West, Man from Plains, and screenings wrap up on October 20 with a Clash film marathon.

Highlights for cinephiles, though, will probably be the film discussions led by Ira Glass, Vince Vaughn and Anderson Cooper—not exactly Hitchcock, but interesting guests nonetheless. The musical counterpart to this will be numerous panels featuring producers, professors and everyone in between talking about the industry in panels such as "Biting the Dust: The Decline of the Album Format," "Comic Books, Kung-Fu and Hip-hop" and "Booze, Boobs and Bribes."

For anyone in the tri-state area who isn't worn down by the upcoming NYFF grind or wants a bit of variety when enjoying the arts, CMJ 2007 kicks off on October 16.
