Deerhoof posts free mp3 album

Sure, its music is mischievous and elfin enough, but who knew that Deerhoof was actually a friendly group of pixies? It seems like any time we're starving for a bit of its art-pop madness, the trio magically appears in the night, sprinkling the web with free content for us when we awake.

Some of you out there might fondly recall a free covers/rarities EP that the group posted last year, which included a superb take on the Beatles' "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill."

Over a year has passed since then, and as the band writes on its Kill Rock Stars homepage, "it's been too long since we offered anything free on our page!" The site now features 13 songs, including live cuts, remixes and rarities, for individual download or free streaming. Clearly, while some artists merely rail against record industry tactics, others actually do something about it.

This could be a limited time offer, though, so the band advises "downloading first and asking questions later." Don't mind if we do!

In other news, the 'Hoof is taking to the road with the adorable girls of Smoosh and the slightly less cuddly chaps of Bloc Party.
