There is no “I” in “Go! Team,” but said pronoun is somehow apparent in “MC Ninja,” the Brighton group's rapping, chanting, schoolyard vibe-bringing front-woman who recently told NME that she has been recording solo material with producer Richard X (Jarvis Cocker, Depeche Mode, Kelis, M.I.A.)
"If I write a song, I write it for me," Ninja said. “I've got exercise books stuffed with lyrics instead of homework going back to when I was 11.”
Ninja has pursued her own career years before she answered the classified advertisement posted by Go! Team bandleader Ian Parton, seeking an “old-school hip-hop rapper.” In March 2006, she told LiveDaily, “I had no idea I was joining a band. I kept accepting calls every week to do another show, another show, another show because I thought the shows that we were doing were going really well.”
Meanwhile, Ninja will be kickin’ it with Go! Team on a fall tour. Here are the U.S. dates (see the links below for others.)
