Indiana Jones IV name announced

As part of Sunday's MTV Music Video Awards, Shia LaBeouf announced the title for the next film in the Indiana Jones series... Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Perhaps the most notable part of this is how skillfully bland yet evocative the film's title is, telling almost nothing at all about its contents while still maintaining a vaguely menacing tone. Good job Lucasfilm focus groups.

Speculation on the name has been rampant since last month when Lucasfilm registered six different titles with the MPAA, including "Indiana Jones and the Quest of the Covenant," "Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Gold" and my personal favorite, "Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds," which is a clear reference to George Lucas himself and his history of mangling up his franchises. With that in mind, probably a good thing this one wasn't chosen.

Starring LeBeouf, Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is still set for release on May 22, 2008.
