New annual Swerve Festival announced

Some cities are festival hogs, aren't they? When New York isn't hosting 781 shows on a daily basis, Chicago's bragging about Lollapalooza and Texas has Austin City Limits in a headlock.

Los Angeles is answering with Swerve Festival, a three-day event with indie feature films, short films and music performances by Oh No! Oh My!, Snowden and Illinois.

The fest jump starts September 28 with Surfwise, Doug Pray's documentary that follows the famous surfing Paskowitz family. The final film will be Anton Corbijn's much-anticipated Control, a biopic about Joy Division's frontman Ian Curtis.

FUEL TV will also present music performances and art installations in what will be the first annual convergence of film, sports, music--and the West Coast lifestyle.

An awards show will wrap up the event, which takes place at Barnsdall Art Park, the Vista Theatre and the Echoplex Sept. 28-30.
