Luciano Pavarotti, Italian operatic tenor and internationally acclaimed humanitarian, died last night (Wednesday) at his home in Modena, succumbing to a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 71.
Pavarotti's career in opera spanned over four decades, visiting dozens of countries and reaching millions of fans. The Washington Post reported on its front page that the singer received over "50,000 fan letters a year."
The singer's website has been flooded with traffic all morning, the pages loading quite slow since the announcement of his death by his manager. The front page leaves us with a black and white candid shot of Pavarotti, coupled with the following quote:
"Penso che una vita per la musica sia una vita spesa bene ed e a questo che mi sono dedicato."
"I think a life in music is a life beautifully spent and this is what I have devoted my life to."
We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
