In which context is "deluxe" most appealing? A fast food menu or an album re-issue? Bacon and special mustard or b-sides and demo tracks?
The debate continues as "Modfather" Paul Weller plans to release a double disc, expanded edition of 1993's Wild Wood, an album that peaked at number two in the UK and is viewed by many as the highlight of his solo career. According to NME, the set - due out October 29 - includes unreleased versions of the record's songs as well as three recordings from a BBC radio session. The liner notes are 32 pages long, creating one of those super-thick booklets that probably stretches out the plastic in your CD case all weird.
Weller's been generally busy this year, as 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of a music career that began with his leadership of The Jam. In January, Yep Roc released the retrospective compilation Hit Parade, and since then Weller has collaborated with former blur guitarist Graham Coxon as well as soulful Brit Andy Lewis. Although he has not paired up with James Blunt, he totally denies saying he'd "rather eat [his] own shit" than do so.
Sometime soon, Weller will appear on UK Channel Four program Transmission.
