Around Paste HQ, we generally try to avoid trafficking in greasy tabloid fodder, but a recent news item the UK has proven too horrifically ironic for us to keep to ourselves.

The sordid tale begins with Pete Doherty, booze-addled singer of Babyshambles, leaving his latest stint at rehab. Where is a rocker who’s looking to clean up his act to go next, you might ask? Well... how about the residence of one Shane MacGowan, booze-addled singer of the Pogues? What, was Amy Winehouse’s guest room already taken? RIMSHOT! We kid because we love.

According to Yahoo! Music News, this unfortunate marriage between hard-living rock stars is now official. Can we anticipate an extended “lost weekend,” akin to the one that John Lennon and Harry Nilsson shared in 1973? Will Doherty and MacGowan cut an album together? And will the Walkmen be there to re-record the results? Stay tuned to PasteMagazine.com for the latest in this gripping saga!

Meanwhile, in actual musical news, the Babyshambles lads are prepping the release of a new album, lovingly entitled Shotter’s Nation, on Oct. 1 in the UK and Oct. 23 stateside. Advance single “Delivery” has received solid reviews from a couple of outlets, so don’t let the ongoing Doherty circus distract you from his band’s work. The group is keeping busy in the meantime, hitting the studio to record some more songs this month. Atta boy, Pete! More hours logged in the studio means less hours spent at the flat with Shane.
