Killing zombies in movies is a time-honored tradition, part of what's made American cinema what it is today. That being said, Russell Mulcahy, the director of Resident Evil: Extinction, has his head in the right place. He's already done the zombies thing, so what other part of the undead would we like to see decimated? Bloodsucking fiends, anyone?
Mulcahy is in charge of a feature adaptation of Steven-Elliot Altman's Zen in the Art of Slaying Vampires, about a guy turned into a vampire by his bloodsucking girlfriend but is able to ignore his bloodlust through Zen meditation. This leads, of course, to killing vampires... and sounds more than vaguely related to the stories of Blade and Angel, but who cares? It's more vampire slaying.
Mulcahy told Variety that he liked "the pathos of the lead character and the way it is wrapped in a world of mythology." We're pretty sure he just has a vendetta against the undead for some reason.
A game adaptation of the film is already planned, with Altman involved in the creation of that as well (he wrote Dragons for Acclaim previously). It's unlikely to replace Dead Rising as the undead smasher of choice anytime in the near future, though.
