Shaun of the Dead was a great film. Hot Fuzz was bordering on brilliant, and one of the driving forces behind both films was Simon Pegg. These collaborations between Pegg and Edgar Wright are like a crazy two-person version of Mel Brooks when he was still on his game.
Pegg's latest and perhaps most surprising role comes via David Schwimmer's directorial debut, Run, Fat Boy, Run. Despite some light acting here and there, this is Schwimmer's first major project since Friends concluded. The film stars Pegg as a man living in a basement apartment after leaving his pregnant girlfriend at the alter. After meeting that girlfriend's new love interest, played by the similarly comedically gifted Hank Azaria, Pegg's character decides to run the marathon in order to prove himself against his rival's athletic achievements.
Along with its brilliant actors, the project was written by Pegg and Michael Ian Black, one third of the Stella comedy troupe and a great comedian in his own right. American viewers will get a chance to see the results on October 26.
