Like the good son that he is, Motown magnate Stevie Wonder plans to produce his next musical venture as an ode to his mother, who passed away not more than a year and a half ago. Tentatively titled The Gospel Inspired by Lula, the musical icon hopes to have the album out by January of 2008, the same month his mother would have celebrated her 77th birthday.
"It's the not traditional gospel," Wonder recently told Billboard.com. "It's gonna have a wide spectrum, I can tell you that much. I might do a song in Arabic. I might do one in Hebrew. I might do one in Zulu. I might do one that sort of has an East Indian feel to it. It will be songs of celebration, really."
Wonder performed Friday night at Atlanta's Chastain Park, and will finish out the rest of his tour dates with shows in Baltimore, Boston and New York City before the end of the month.
"If it's not good enough," Wonder added, commenting on the fast-approaching release date, "I might not put it out. You know how we roll."
