Unlike the its British counterpart, the American Film Institute (AFI) doesn't receive millions of dollars a year to maintain its world-famous archives or publish perhaps the most prestigious film magazine in the world. It does, however, put out best-of lists of dubious quality and present a yearly film festival, which isn't too shabby if you happen to live in the Los Angeles area or can get their easily. The festival begins on Nov. 1 this year and goes through Nov. 11, hosted by Laura Linney and Catherine Deneuve.
Of the films shown, the festival will have the world premiers of titles such as Spine Tingler! The William Castle Story and Public Enemy - Welcome to the Terrordome. Other interesting North American premiers include Lions for Lambs and Love in the Time of Cholera. The festival also looks to reprise many of the showings from the New York Film Festival, in case you missed that by living on the other coast. Those films including Cannes winner 4 Month, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Alexandra, Flight of the Red Balloon and Margot at the Wedding.
For more information on the festival and a full schedule of screenings check out AFI.com.
