What would you do if Def Jux supreme commander El-P (above) happened to drop by your place for dinner? Discuss Orwell and Huxley over Mom's meatloaf? Debate neoconservative policy during dessert? Trade freestyles after a few beers?
Well, Dinner with the Band is here to take all of the mystery out of this dream scenario. Sometimes reality's even sweeter, though. With too-cool-for-culinary-school chef Sam Mason leading the proceedings, the web show illustrates some mouth-watering recipes as Mason riffs with a guest musical artist. Then, said artist hits the stage to perform a few tunes. Other past performers besides El-Producto include Tokyo Police Club, Pela, and Fucked Up.
It's a pretty foolproof formula, one that even telecommunications giant AT&T can't ignore. The company is picking up the show and three other series from ON Networks, an Internet production company that puts together some pretty sterling content, despite the lowered expectations that come with the digital medium these days. All four shows will be available for AT&T customers on the company's various devices, from big screen TVs to handheld mobile devices.
Nice to hear that some left-of-center content is receiving some corporate luvin', but you don't need AT&T Broadband TV to appreciate El-P extolling the virtues of well-made bagels with lox in some guy's apartment.
Other shows getting picked up:
* Play Value (Gen X'ers on video games)
* Backpack Picnic (sketch comedy)
* Bif Bam Pow Wow! (geek culture discussion)
