Cake reprises Unlimited Sunshine

Those '90s legends of irony and monotony (in a good way) are back. Cake, whose take on Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” is one of the greatest arguments for the existence of cover songs, recently released an album of b-sides and rarities. Now, the band wants to share its odds, ends and favorites with the world, or at least with states north of the Mason-Dixon line (and Virginia).

The trek is another chapter of the Unlimited Sunshine touring festival, which the band launched in 2002. Past dates have included such venerable bands as the Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse and Gogol Bordello. This time around, Cake will be joined by Brazilian Girls on the east coast and Detroit Cobras on the west coast, which does not make a lot of geographic sense, but is still awesome. Oakley Hall, King City and Agent Ribbons will also be along for the ride.
