On the heels of completing his second album First Light’s Freeze, Ray Raposa was stricken with depression. Many might assume this would be a happy time for the man behind Castanets, but after a gunpoint mugging that robbed him of his rent money, beloved iPod and sense of security, it was hard for Raposa to lift his spirits.
Luckily, the songwriter did not let this time of darkness go to waste. Instead, he poured all of his sorrow and downward sentiment into his latest recording In the Vines. With the album set to be released Oct. 23, Castanets will be hitting the road for a U.S. tour on Oct. 19. Deer Tick is also slated to perform, and will serve as the Castanets’ backing band.
