Jon Stewart stays Daily through 2010

Jon Stewart stays Daily through 2010

Jon Stewart, host of The Daily Show since 1999, has signed an extension on his contract keeping him as host through 2010. Previously he was only signed on through 2008, but perhaps due to the, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "easily into the eight-figure range" amount he'll be pulling a year, it looks like he'll be staying on for a little longer before looking elsewhere.

In fact, the deal may help him look elsewhere - more specifically, that strange, foreign land known as network television - when he finishes up. In 2010, David Letterman's current deal with CBS ends, and Conan O'Brien will have just taken over The Tonight Show, leaving late night television in a bit of flux that Stewart can capitalize on. Where he'll go, if anywhere, no one can say just yet. But even he may be tiring of the same fake news format he's carried for the last decade.

For now, though, we can all look forward to Stewart staying on through the 2008 election, as well as the premier of the latest from his Busboy Productions company, Important Things with Demitri Martin. If the correspondents themselves are any indication, viewers can expect the project to be highly derivative of The Colbert Report but funny nonetheless.
