Liars drop a pair of new singles, continue tour

After releasing a record that took their style back to the garage, Liars are keeping another longstanding rock tradition alive: the 7" single with rare tracks.

The group actually has two delectable little single packages in the pipeline, starting with the standout track from its self-titled fourth album, "House Clouds." Coming out via Mute Records on Oct. 29, the single features a few bonus goodies, depending on which version you pick up. The CD/digital copy features "Red Dirt" and a remix of the group's "Clear Island." The 7", meanwhile, tacks on "Dear God," which we're still hoping will actually be a post-rock, drum circle take on the XTC number. Those curious about the sound of "House Clouds" itself can check out the stream on the Liars' MySpace (hint: think Dust Brothers).

The second single arrives Nov. 20, and is a strictly 7" affair. Featuring exclusive tracks "Leapord on My Right" and "Dear," the package also tacks on a live DVD. The most notable of those four live tracks? A cover of Nirvana's "Territorial Pissings," a rollicking affair that should fit nicely within the confines of Liars' strange and doom-laden sound.

Meanwhile, the group is wrapping up its North American tour with Interpol. The jaunt has apparently given birth to what certain publications might call a "supergroup." Christened as Reefer Duberland (uh...), the band features members of Liars, Interpol, and Deerhunter. It could be a one-off affair, but experimental rock lovers can still dream about potential future 7" releases for their collection.
