Magnetic Fields crank up the Distortion in January

| | Comments (0)

When you've got as many side projects as Stephin Merritt, does it really matter what you call yourself from album to album? For fans of 69 Love Songs, however, the name "The Magnetic Fields" carries with it a certain reverential weight. Merritt's romantic opus, released back in 1999, still possesses a legendary status for its depth, breadth and all-around quality. In 2004, i was the last we heard from The Magnetic Fields project, but that will change early next year.

By way of Pitchfork, here's a little notice on Merritt's website announcing a new Fields album:

"The Magnetic Fields are happy to announce that their new album, titled Distortion, will be released on Nonesuch Records on January 15, 2008. The band will perform a small number of U.S. tour dates in February and March. Specific details regarding venues and ticket pre-sales will be announced shortly."

Thank you, Stephin. You just did the reporting for us. We'll let you folks know when those tour dates arrive.
