Matthew Dear goes acoustic on Minnesota Public Radio

This summer, Matthew Dear released an album that deserved the hype. Asa Breed is the sound of an electronic musician unsatisfied with being “merely” one of the world’s most renowned DJs. Indeed, in June, Dear told Paste that the acoustic guitar has “always been sacred to me.” Now, the electronic-artist-who-is-not-merely-an-electronic-artist has definitively confirmed his statement.

The Daily Swarm pointed us to Dear’s recent performance for Minnesota Public Radio, where he played three songs, including the fantastic “Deserter.” Dear did not bring any fancy electronic instruments with him – just his acoustic guitar. Maybe the excellent set will discourage folks from pigeonholing him.
