Michael Bay working on Friday the 13th series

Having careened through the Transformers franchise and recently announced a release date of June 29, 2009 for Transformeers 2, Michael Bay also has other pictures on his plate through his production company Platinum Dunes. The company, best known so far for its revival of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, acquired the rights to the Friday the 13th series and has a remake of the original planned.

The movie is also being readied for a 2009 release and is supposedly a true remake rather than yet one more rehash of the same basic plot that still somehow lies in continuity. Bay's company made the questionable choice of Freddy vs. Jason screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift to write the script. Although that film was widely panned (and is infinitely worse than its cohort Alien vs. Predator), it did make decent returns at the box office.

Also in the works by Platinum Dunes, a remake of Hitchcock's The Birds. Be afraid, be very afraid.
