New Wong Kar Wai short hits the web

| | Comments (0)

While Wong Kar Wai's English debut won't be hitting the screens until February 13, 2008, a short he did for Phillips is now available on their website here. Or, if you don't mind watching a nastily stretched aspect ratio, you can view it down below:

Phillips' CEO Rudy Provoost commented in a press release about the film last July, "Innovation isn’t just about increased functionality anymore. It’s about creating experiences, seducing the senses and bringing emotion into the world of technology. That’s why the movie for our campaign to launch the next generation of Ambilight had to be crafted by a master of seduction in cinema."

"There's Only One Sun" is as beautiful as everything else that Kar Wai touches, although the story is a bit weird. Not quite science-fiction, it's a bit reminiscent of his last feature 2046. One interesting thing to note is that Kar Wai shot the film with Philippe Le Sourd as cinematographer. In the past, Kar Wai worked exclusively with Christopher Doyle until they had a bit of a falling out over the length of time his features were taking. My Blueberry Nights and the planned The Lady from Shanghai has the director working with Darius Khondji, whose best work has been with David Fincher on several of his pictures. Whether or not this means Kar Wai is shopping around a bit after the eight-film collaboration with Doyle is unknown at this time.
