Pay a visit to the graveyard that was once known as OiNK, and you might be surprised to find a homepage devoted to waffles.
"OiNK.cd - the number 1 site in the world for waffle recipes," reads the page title.
Could it be? Has OiNK finally forsaken its illegal torrenting past and turned over a new leaf as a digital waffle house?
Ahh... but not so fast: "These are the waffles that taste really good according to google," reads a link at the bottom of the page. Click on it, and you're taken to a Google search for "what to use instead of OiNK."
The top hit is a blog post listing some 55 torrent sites, ranging from artist-specific (The Smiths, U2, Pearl Jam) to all-purpose (torrentz.com, The Pirate Bay). Clearly, the IFPI has its work cut out for itself.
But that's just the start: like a swinish version of Jason Voorhees, OiNK itself refuses to die. As per Mashable.com (via The Daily Swarm), the aforementioned Pirate Bay plans to rebirth OiNK as "BOiNK," this time as a publicly accessible torrent site. In its previous incarnation, OiNK was invitation-only.
TorrentFreak.com uses the hydra metaphor in a recent celebratory post: slice off one file-trading head and another three crop up. Of course, the hypothetical BOiNK.cd is not up and running yet.
Idolator, meanwhile, rounds up some reaction from the torrenting community, and it's pretty skeptical on the whole.
"We didn't try and resurrect Lennon did we?" remarks one TorrentFreak user.
Or Lenin, for that matter...
