At Paste, we enjoy music, film and domestic trainwrecks with equal zeal. Considering all that, it seemed natural that we sponsor the CMJ Film Festival screening of Frank & Cindy, a documentary that combines all three elements in a scintillating cinematic stew. If you're a CMJ badge holder, and happen to be hanging around the Museum of Modern Art in NYC on Oct. 16, stop by for the 7 p.m. screening. It's being hosted as a part of MoMA's Pop Rally program.
Directed by G.J. Ekterncamp, the doc revolves around his parents: a deadbeat stepfather who once fronted a one-hit wonder band (Frank), and an ambitious mom (Cindy). Cindy hopes that Frank can recapture his old musical magic by furnishing a brand new studio for him. Instead of recording, Frank drinks. Quite a bit, as a matter of fact. And then things get really interesting, with Ekterncamp filming all the while. There will be a Q&A with the young director after the screening concludes.
