Through a creeping continental drift, all of the appliances we modern folks take for granted are gradually coming together. That iPhone gizmo will surely look pedestrian in a few years, given how much convergence we're seeing in the technology field. Soon we'll be seeing products like the kind Tom Waits advertised in "Step Right Up":
"It's effective, it's defective, it creates household odors, it disinfects, it sanitizes for your protection, it gives you an erection, it wins the election..."
The latest technological merger has arrived between digital TV service TiVo and online music library Rhapsody. As Billboard reports, Rhapsody subscribers with a broadband-connected TiVo can search 'n' stream music directly through their TV entertainment center, navigating through Rhapsody menus with a TiVo remote and even giving thumbs up or thumbs down designation to individual tracks. There are no extra fees involved for current Rhapsody subscribers, and with a ripe new market of potential customers (think 1.5 million), Rhapsody's sitting pretty. Mmm... synergy.
TiVo subscribers can take Rhapsody for a 30-day trial spin, after which the standard subscription rate of $12.99 per month kicks in.
