Warlocks do the new album-tour combo

| | Comments (0)

With a name and album title befitting the upcoming fright-culture holiday, psychedelic dream-drone band the Warlocks this week released Heavy Deavy Skull Lover, their sixth album and very first effort on New York City’s Tee Pee records (a label that previously signed Brian Jonestown Massacre, of which Warlocks frontman Bobby Hecksher used to be a member). Naturally, a tour is at hand – it begins tonight in Long Beach, ends in their Los Angeles stomping grounds, and covers a smattering of non-California dates in between.

Right now, the group is pushing the tune “So Paranoid” as its first “focus track,” or whatever you’re supposed to say instead of “single.” You can hear it on their MySpace, and decide for yourself whether you think it has shades of a whispery, stoned “Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons” by the Pixies (almost certainly unintentional, but there it is, just barely, in a way almost not worth mentioning, but mentioned regardless).

And here are the dates:

October
26 - Long Beach, Calif. @ Alex's Bar
30 - Marfa, Texas @ Ray's Bar*
31 - Austin, Texas @ The Mohawk*

November
2 - Birmingham, Ala. @ The Nick*
