Cadence Weapon births Afterparty Babies
Apparently there is an entire subcategory of human existence that depends on rump-shakin’ boom bap in the way captive pandas require pornography. Canadian hip-hop artist Rollie Pemberton, a.k.a. Cadence Weapon, should probably receive some kind of scientific grant for discovering this classification, Afterparty Babies, also the name of his sophomore CD, set to drop March 4 on Anti-/Epitaph (Upper Class/EMI in Canada, Upper Class/Big Dada in the UK and Europe). Pemberton, 21, “wanted to make music that afterparty babies are created to,” according to an official statement promulgating his commitment to the perpetuation of said group (a diverse, though scattershot... read more
Led Zeppelin fan pays absurd amount for reunion show
Two weeks ago, Paste writer Jeremy Goldmeier mused, “Argh…you mean we have to stretch this Led Zeppelin circus out even further?” Of course, Mr. Goldmeier was referring to the delay of Led Zeppelin’s one-off reunion show due to Jimmy Page’s broken finger, but he could have also been referring to Paste’s extensive coverage of said reunion. Well, Mr. Goldmeier, let’s stretch it further still. Today, we bring you news that a Led Zeppelin fan has paid £83,000 for two tickets to the concert on December 10. If you’re unfamiliar with British currency, £83,000 is roughly equal to 29,520,214 Hungarian Forint,... read more
Watch The National, more get busy in a cab
We already know from Taxicab Confessions that there’s nothing quite like folks doin’ it in the back of a vehicle they are paying per-block to use. But it doesn’t only happen in America, and it ain’t only everyday nutjobs and freakshows who pile in for the ride. Some great artists have been revealing their business behind the driver’s shoulder in a series of videos by the British production company Just So Films in conjunction with Hidden Fruit called “Black Cab Sessions.” This most recent ones have featured Elvis Perkins, the Brightlights, The National and – just posted today – beloved-by-Bowie... read more
Dresden Dolls tour - separately and together
Given all of the time they spend performing together in the pressure cooker of a "Brechtian punk cabaret," perhaps some alone time was in store for Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione of The Dresden Dolls. Their theatrical onstage interplay could wear out even the most kindred of spirits, after all. So they began a trial separation in 2007, with Palmer working on a Ben Folds-produced solo debut album and Viglione doing his creepy drummer thing throughout the Boston music scene. The Dolls' upcoming tour schedule, however, brings the two musicians' paths back into alignment. Palmer and Viglione begin on separate... read more
The Road Giveth, The Road Taketh Away
I have a yellow Polaroid photo of myself in the streets of Juarez, Mexico, 1972. I’m sitting on a life-size plaster horse, wearing a straw sombrero, holding a beat-up copy of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. I’m drunk and happy and three-quarters through a 7,000-mile odyssey across the continent. I’d purchased a... read more

Possible Jackson 5 reunion tour...maybe
This month you might have done a double take as you waited in line to pay for your goods at the grocery store. There, right next to the Altoids and Snickers bars, is a picture of a very porcelain Michael Jackson on the whitest cover ever of Ebony Magazine. The King of Pop has reason to celebrate, as this year marks the 25th anniversary of Thriller, the album that launched him into the realm of international stardom and won him eight Grammy Awards to boot. So what better time than now for The Man in the Mirror to triumphantly return... read more

DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist reunite for Hard Sell tour
Turntablists extraordinaire DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist have joined forces before. But with the emergence of electronic duos like Justice and Simian Mobile Disco, now seems like a good time for a pair of mixmasters to go out and do their thing, even if it isn't as obviously poppy as those other artists. As if to confirm that their act isn't such an easy pill to swallow, Shadow and Chemist are calling their new tour "The Hard Sell." DJ Shadow has made his name by staying a step ahead of the curve, from his peerless debut Endtroducing... to his work... read more
