Avett Brothers clean up at AMA Awards, continue tour

Paging through back issues of Paste is sort of like looking at an Avett Brothers family photo album. Awww... remember when those little tykes released Mignonette? Boy, we sure thought they'd never grow up back then. And it seems like only yesterday we gave 'em their own feature story. But now, the Avetts are all rugged and grown up, as evidenced by their latest effort, Emotionalism. But we're not the only ones who have taken notice of the Avett Brothers' impressive maturation.

As previously reported, the Avetts went into last week's Americana Music Association awards with three nominations. Well, the brothers bagged two out of three, which - by conventional wisdom - ain't bad. The group claimed 2007 honors for "Group/Duo of the Year" and "New and Emerging Artist." Sure, Emotionalism didn't quite make it as Album of the Year, but that award went to the equally deserving Patty Griffin for Children Running Through.

The Avetts performed a rousing version of "Shame" at the ceremony held in Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. There's no video yet available, but it probably went something like this. There are, after all, still new memories to be made...
