Tragedy continues to haunt the Ramones family. After the deaths of the band's three core members earlier this decade, the group's manager has been found murdered in her Manhattan apartment. This Tuesday, Linda Stein, 62, was discovered in a pool of blood by her daughter. Stein's body had suffered blows to the head and neck. EMS pronounced her DOA when they arrived on the scene. Police are currently investigating Stein's death as a homicide.
According to BBC News, Stein booked the Ramones' famous 1976 appearance at the Roundhouse in London, an event credited with sparking the British punk movement. Since her stint with the Ramones, Stein had gone on to become the "realtor to the stars," working with clients such as Steven Spielberg, Billy Joel and Madonna. She was married to Sire Records chief Seymour Stein for eight years. Stein had also battled breast cancer throughout her latter years, and actively raised money to fight the disease.
Stein's multi-million-dollar apartment, located on Manhattan's prestigious Fifth Avenue, has doormen and multiple surveillance cameras, which should hopefully make it easier for authorities to track down Stein's murderer.
The Daily Swarm has gathered several stories, past and present, on the life and career of Stein.
