It's hard to remember now, but there was once a time when Morrissey's solo career lay dormant and half-forgotten by the public. Following 1997's Maladjusted, the Moz went strangely silent, allowing his musical progeny (i.e. the whole Britpop crowd) to slug it out on the charts. But when You Are The Quarry arrived out of the blue in 2004, Morrissey suddenly became an institution once again. He's criss-crossed the world several times over since his return, and according to his manager Merck Mercuriadis, the Moz Marathon should continue well into next year.
"He'll be back out in January," Mercuriadis told Billboard.com. "We'll take a short break and then start again in March."
The busy tour itinerary won't prevent this charming man from recording new material, however. Mercuriadis added that Morrissey is soon to sign a new record deal (following his stint at Sanctuary), and a fresh studio album with Quarry producer Jerry Finn should follow by the end of the year. There is also a best-of compilation in the offing, which will include two new songs in its track list.
Living somewhere in the American Southeast? Then maybe you can catch the tail-end of Moz's jaunt in support of last year's Ringleader of the Tormentors:
