Black Lips play Australian fest, tour, work on next album

Next year is leap year, and while for many that might mean a 29-day celebratory orgy in February filled with utter pomp and circumstance, heathen behavior, indulgence left and right, gallon-sized tubs of butter and a wanton disregard for rules and regulations, for Black Lips, it simply means more touring. That's right, the dudes who have recently played both Israel and a strip club, and will soon portray semi-fictional band The Renegades in a movie, have scheduled additional shows. Surprise, surprise, right? Hell, even when Black Lips are at home, they can't seem to sit still for more than five or six minutes.

Cole Alexander, Jared Swilley, Ian St. Pe and Joe Bradley are currently amidst a couple scattered shows in the Southeast, and next up is Australia. First performing at the Meredith Festival alongside Art Brut, The Gossip, Dr. Dog and Andrew W.K. (playing a special solo set), the band will also take on gigs in Sydney and Melbourne before heading back stateward for thirtysomeodd more dates.

Meanwhile, according to the band's blog, the boys are already working on the follow-up to Good Bad Not Evil (incidentally, Paste's #23 album of the year). "We got the new studio album in the works, but don't get too eager," writes an anonymous Lip. "We got a lot of traveling to do." [Editor's Note: The post has since been removed from the blog.] Fair enough. In the meantime, said nameless rocker suggests that those with a case of the antsy pants should spend some time enjoying "friends, family" and "james brown christmas." Whether this means Black Lips fans should enjoy both James Brown and Christmas, or something more along the lines of this is uncertain at the time of this article's publishing. But we'll be sure to keep you posted.
