Jackass 2.5 to be released for free online

Jackass 2.5 to be released for free online

The first studio feature film to be released online will be Jackass 2.5, and it will be available on Dec. 19. Not only that, but the film will be free for download during its first two weeks, afterwards moving to DVD and other online media outlets such as iTunes.

While most of the film's footage is unused material from Jackass Number Two, it also features some material created just for the project - $2 million worth to be exact. Despite this figured, Jackass 2.5 is only 64 minutes long.

Alongside the film, MTV will also be launching JackassWorld.com for user submitted videos. “There’s no better franchise than Jackass to launch our new media division,” said David Gale, Executive Vice President of New Media for MTV Networks’ Music Group in the film's press release. “With Jackass 2.5 and soon JackassWorld.com, we’re giving fans cool, viral content that’s perfect for the digital space.”

According to Thomas Lesinski, President of Paramount Pictures Digital Entertainment, "The Jackass movie is the first of several feature films that we plan on distributing online and as the digital world evolves." No doubt we'll see whether this production is a success or not soon, based on whether these future online distributed films actually crop up.

Jackass 2.5 will be available online through Blockbuster.Jackass.com. Check out the film's trailer below:
