Jammin' on the One: The Jam reunites (sort of) for U.S. Tour

On the heels of a string of U.K. dates, mod-worshipping legendary Brit-punk group The Jam is about to invade the U.S.—again. Maybe this time, the band will have more success cozying up to American eardrums. (Despite The Jam's indisputable greatness, its 1977 American tour was about as successful as Kevin Costner’s Waterworld, likely due to the fact that the band’s aesthetic and its themes were far too British for us Americans, who are occasionally a tad bit ethnocentric. Still [lucky for us discerning Yanks], The Jam is gonna give it one more go-round.)

But now wait jest a cotton-pickin’ minute, there seems to be SOMETHIN’ A LITTLE FISHY GOIN’ ON HERE. Alright, The Jam, no more beating around the bush… out with it already!

“Well,” new member Russell Hastings might have said if we’d actually interviewed him, “while this upcoming tour features founding rhythm section Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler, who are extremely talented in their own right, IT WILL NOT FEATURE FRONTMAN AND PRINCIPAL SONGWRITER/LEAD SINGER/GUITARIST PAUL WELLER (who later went on to sissy-dressed-bad-haircut-sportin'-yet-somehow-still-credible New Wave fame in The Style Council).” Hmmm...so that's why they're calling themselves From the Jam.

“Solidarity!” shouted a newly reunited, Shannon Hoon-less Blind Melon, before The Misfits sans Glen Danzig seconded with a hearty, but slightly more long-winded “Right on, chaps! Don’t let some selfish primadonna ex-frontman keep you down! You have just as much of a right to leech off the legacy of your band as he does! And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!”

One thing is certain about From the Jam—ain’t nobody who can accuse of them of being cowards. These guys love a challenge, and that, my friends, is punk rock… as HAIL!
