The Internet news cycle gets a bit crazy sometimes. Everyone's trying to get a jump on this or that story, and given the constant, ravenous demands of the public for content, rumor and innuendo often get tossed into the headlines. It's probably the worst with festival lineups. Apparently, everyone and your mother is already booked to play Coachella 2008 (no, seriously, your mother is getting great buzz on the blogs).
The latest victim in the lineup speculation game? Bonnaroo '08, which recently had its supposed headliners leaked to the Internet. Led Zeppelin and Metallica? Seriously, rumormongers, are you trying to give some middle-aged metalhead a heart attack? The source on this leak: an anonymous letter included in the newsletter of music industry opinion-molder Bob Lefsetz.
Yesterday, Billboard.com shot down this rumor with a statement from Bonnaroo promoters Superfly Presents and A.C. Entertainment.
"The rumors that are out there about the Bonnaroo 2008 headliners are inaccurate," the promotion team told Billboard. "We're very excited about the lineup that we're putting together for this year's festival. We'll be announcing the confirmed lineup toward the end of January/beginning of February."
Keep on dreaming, friends. And stay tuned for the Led Zeppelin reunion gig at London's O2 Arena, which still hasn't happened yet. Dec. 10 can't come soon enough.
In actual news, Metallica has included the first single from its next album in MTV's Rock Band video game, according to a report in the Rocky Mountain News. Will this set a trend for music distribution? After all, Metallica has always been on the cutting edge of that field. We kid, Lars! We kid because we love!
