"We've been waiting for this all our lives," Angus Andrew sang from the stage of Atlanta's Tabernacle back in September, a sold-out crowd of 3,500 people staring as he and his band Liars made a terribly awesome racket. It was a poignant line, and the man in a stark white suit singing it over the mass looked like he truly meant it.
Although some folks were freaking out (in a good way) and enjoying the band, many were there solely for headliner Interpol, and were less than modest about letting their feelings show. For instance, the group of young gents near me inconsiderately hurling loud comments in the general vicinity of the stage. While pondering the rudeness of those adjacent (seriously, couldn't they go hang out at the bar or something?) and soaking up Liars in what was a relatively large venue for them, I couldn't help but hope for the day the band announced its own headlining tour of mid-sized shows. Here we are, then...
Kicking off in California towards the end of January, Liars will traverse all over the United States with support from No Age on all dates, eventually ending up right back in California almost exactly a month later. Still out supporting their late-August, self-titled album, Liars are an unpredictable treat in a live setting, so if you live in one of 24 cities below, you'd do well to take in a show. Plus, there's a chance you could get devoured by Andrew!
"We thrive on the strong visceral power of the audience," the singer said in a statement. "Being face to face with a crowd can sometimes make me want to eat them. I look forward to that opportunity on this tour. I also am eager to play some of the songs on our new album that we’ve left wanting. In all I anticipate the whole tour being shambolic, psychotic and historic. A winter wonderland of weirdo rockers."
