With Eddie Vedder’s work on Into the Wild and Aimee Mann's involvement with Magnolia, we know that artists being in charge of a motion picture soundtrack can be a very good thing. It’s a way for musicians to create a great concept album and explore themes, events and emotions that they may not have otherwise ventured into.
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are seemingly taking a hint from those who have walked before them. The two musicians have signed on to compose tracks for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and that work is now available for the listening.
The western, staring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck, is based off of the Ron Hansen novel and will be released on DVD come Feb. 5. The hard copy CD soundtrack will also be available that day, but why wait? You can get those old-country inspired tunes today via digital download by clicking here. While you're there, you can also go ahead and check out the soundtrack the rockers laid down for the 2005 Aussie flick, The Proposition.
