CBS to air Showtime's Dexter

CBS to air Showtime's Dexter

While the writers’ strike has forced most networks to air reruns of good programming or new episodes of terrible programming, CBS has hit upon a different approach. On Sunday, Feb. 17, the network will start airing Showtime’s Dexter, the second season of which only just ended in December.

CBS’ decision splits the difference between new programming and reruns. Although the fortunate among us (that is, Showtime subscribers) have attentively followed the antics of television's favorite serial killer, a whole new set of viewers will now come upon Dexter and treat it like a brand new series.

The show will lose some of its violent edge in its jump to network television, but in this arid television landscape, it may turn out to be a big hit. Television executives, if you’re listening, we thank you for this compromise, but we still really miss 30 Rock.
