Nickel Creek has finished touring and gone on its long-talked-about hiatus (and seriously, at least the band called it a hiatus, unlike many other musicians, who were seemingly sold faulty dictionaries that misdefine the word "retirement").
Now, siblings Sara and Sean Watkins have joined forces with six other musicians that include Toad the Wet Sprocket frontman Glen Phillips, as well as members of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers and Elvis Costello's Imposters, to form a supergroup tentatively dubbed The Scrolls.
According to Phillips, the album will be a combination of good ol' American rock and Nickel Creek-esque Americana, with a dash of what Phillips calls "strangeness" thrown in for good measure. This writer isn't at all sure what that means, but she is sure that many a Nickel Creek fan will be waiting with bated breath for the release.
Recorded in L.A. by producer Jim Scott (Sting, Barenaked Ladies, Counting Crows), the album features 16 songs, and if all goes as planned, should be released in the fall of this year, along with the name of our next president.
In the meantime, here's a clip of the siblings Watkins to tide you over:
