It seems that the members of Radiohead just can’t stop giving away their music. First came the unconventional choose-what-you-pay release of the band’s latest album In Rainbows. Then Thom Yorke and company announced today that they would play a surprise free show tonight at London’s Rough Trade East store.
The band will play a short set of songs from the new album, guitarist Jonny Greenwood wrote on the band’s blog Dead Air Space. Tickets for the show will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis, as standing room in the store is very limited. The band also hopes to set up monitors and speakers outside for fans left in the cold, and plans to webcast the concert via Radiohead.TV.
Ever courteous and considerate of their fans, the band’s post includes a map to the venue, and a recommendation to fans waiting in line outside Rough Trade East that there are “good bagels round there.” Fans are also advised to dress warmly, as the doors will not open until 7 p.m. for the show, which will happen about an hour later.
The post ends with a message from Greenwood. “Hope you can make it – should be… interesting,” he writes. “Us being us, we’re taking far too many instruments…” Let’s hope they’ll be bringing all of those instruments along when they start their U.S. tour later this year.
