J5, The Roots, more contribute to Baby Loves Hip-Hop

The music industry as a whole hasn’t been known for catching on to trends in an immediate fashion. For example, it is theorized that early exposure to music aids in healthy child development (for the scholarly among you, look here and here ). The Baby Loves Music line, however, has embraced this idea and is now releasing its second installment, titled Baby Loves Hip-Hop.

The release will feature original music by and hip-hop luminaries Prince Paul, Chali Tuna (Jurassic 5), Lady Bug Mecca (Digable Planets), Scratch (The Roots) and Wordsworth. The story centers around five dinosaur friends (played by the five rap stars) who go on a magical adventure on this “book on tape” with a Broadway-like format. Coincidentally enough, actor/comedian Chris Rock has optioned the story for future development.

The Baby Loves Music Company was founded by Andy Blackman Hurwitz (also founder of Ropeadope Records) in 2005 to provide access to different genres of music for children while still being palatable for adults. And unlike some of his competitors, he fills a void in a market dominated by pop songs badly dubbed with child voices and midi versions of classical music. The company's first release, Baby Loves Jazz, was critically acclaimed and won numerous awards. Look for Baby Loves Hip-Hop to drop on April 1.
