Did You Know? (Baseball Trivia)
- Longtime homerun king Babe Ruth was an avid pianist, and in 1937 starred in musical short film Home Run on the Keys.
- During the 1940s, bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe and his band doubled as a traveling baseball team, often taking on the locals before concerts.
- On August 15, 1965, The Beatles infamously played the N.Y. Mets’ brand-new Shea Stadium. Sadly, this landmark will meet the wrecking ball after the 2008 season.
- Arthur Lee Maye was a regional doo-wop favorite in his home state of Alabama—he went to high school with members of The Coasters, The Platters, The Penguins, and numerous others—long before he got called up to the majors in 1959 and embarked on a long and fruitful baseball career that he ended with a .274 lifetime batting average.
- Scott Radinsky, a lefty who played for the White Sox and the Dodgers, pitched in over 500 games between 1986-1997 while balancing his other job as the lead singer of punk bands Ten Foot Pole and Pulley.
- Longtime San Diego Padres veteran Tim Flannery (now a third-base coach with the San Francisco Giants) has released eight albums of "California country music."
