Peter Morén’s highly anticipated solo debut, The Last Tycoon, won’t be released for another month, but the album’s first single, “Social Competence,” is available now exclusively on PasteMagazine.com. Have a listen:
Morén is perhaps best known as one third of Swedish trio Peter Bjorn and John, who popped up on many Americans’ radar screens last year with their infectious album Writer’s Block. The group has by no means broken up; in fact, PB&J just finished touring with the Besnard Lakes in December. The trio has also been working on an instrumental album.
Morén’s solo album will be released April 8 on Quarterstick Records. Recorded and mixed over the past two years in both the U.S. and Sweden, The Last Tycoon has more of a low-key, acoustic sound than Writer's Block.
Morén will be performing at SXSW Thursday afternoon at the Dell Lounge, sponsored by Paste and Stereogum. He will also be touring Europe over the next month before returning to the U.S. and Canada in April.
