Movie goers lucky enough to see the phenomenal animated feature Ratatouille are already aware of the work of director Brad Bird. (And if you haven't seen it, you really are unlucky, and should remedy your situation immediately.)
Bird (who was born Phillip Bradley Bird, and now goes by the somewhat horrifying nickname Bloody Bradley Bird) is now set to direct his first live-action feature, 1906, a film based on the 2004 book by James Dalessandro. According to Slashfilm.com, 1906 may end up being the first film produced by Pixar's new live action division.
Both the movie and the book focus on San Francisco's 1906 earthquake, which regularly appears in the top five of U.S. natural disaster lists. The following video footage of the aftermath of the disaster gives an idea of the length of the destruction caused both by the earthquake itself and the fires that followed. Reportedly, 500 city blocks were destroyed, 3,000 people lost their lives and 225,000 found themselves homeless when it was all over.
While you watch the following video, try to figure out what the other four worst U.S. natural disasters were. If you get all four, you should probably apply for a spot on Jeopardy!. (See answers below the video.)
Top five worst U.S natural disasters:
5. Okeechobee Hurricane
4. San Francisco Earthquake
3. Dust Bowl
2. Hurricane Katrina
