Time Warner buys out New Line, rumored to fire 450

Time Warner's recent acquisition of New Line Cinema sparked talk of bringing the company “back to basics” in terms of its filmmaking and its crew. According to Variety, Time Warner plans on laying off at least 75 percent of New Line's 600-person staff. By reducing New Line—home to the Lord of the Rings and Rush Hour franchises—to its bare bones, TW aims to limit the 40-year-old company to a small group of genres, namely horror, comedy and urban.
