Tom Waits announces summer tour plans

| | Comments (9)

UPDATE: Dates and cities have been announced! Click here.

*****

Tom Waits, he of the gravel voice and source material for an upcoming Scarlett Johansson cover album, is preparing for a tour this summer, his camp confirmed this week.

But don’t rush out to your local ticket office just yet. Waits and his management team are still piecing the tour schedule together, so no dates or cities have been announced. Organizers could only confirm that the tour would hit both the U.S. and Europe.

Waits’ fans certainly have reason to be excited, as his tours have been few and far between lately. His last outing was an eight-date U.S. tour two years ago in support of his three-disc album Orphans.

While you’re impatiently waiting for the specifics, check out Waits rocking the megaphone in a video for “Chocolate Jesus.”

You know, I'm sure you'd make a lot folks purty happy if you came to at least one of the three states on the west coast. Shit, even Montana would be alright...

Tom, I have been trying to see you perform for 17 years. Must I be punished for being birthed in Boyle Heights?

Dear Tom...
Please play a show in or around the Los Angeles-Orange County area. The last time I saw you perform was when The Wiltern HAD seats! Watching you live was an eye opener for me; no one is like you and I just miss you a whole bunch!

How about somewhere on the East Coast??

Please come to CA... sandiego would be awesome. Know it's a looong shot, I would have done AZ... but just found out about this!

cc Tom, I saw you sweep up a floor on the Tonight Show or Saterday Night live ...could it have 30 years ago...maybe. I tried to call you 20 years ago to come play a small club in Birmingham, Alabama and I was going to pay for the whole thing. Now you are coming to us...I live a few blocks from the venue in our "re-imerging" downtown district. You will be playing just blocks from the 14st. church bombing and the park and streets where barking police dogs and fire hoses ran rampant and M.L.K. was thrown in jail so many times...the cops said I actually occupied his cell one night....That was then this is now. I do hope you enjoy your quick visit to Birmingham. We have changed down here. Much work still needs to be done but if you are swinging by here on your way to Atlanta that gives us a bit hope. Make good days, Charles waltonzbjr2z

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!! come to Australia!!!!!!!!!!!!! there are a lot of fans over here (in my circle anyways)if i can help in anyway please let me know (rather doubtful... but worth a shot Ay put it this way him and zappa are the two biggest influences in my music life and i saw Zappa plays Zappa last year so all i needs is waits and my music life is compleate!!!!

Tom Waits is a joke. Who listens to this shit?? This is not music. When i first heard tom attempt to "sing" i felt like vomiting. In all seriousness, the jig is up, this cant be real.

Obviously, Bud, you are a Barbara Streisand fan. You are not expected to appreciate the complex character of Tom Waits, his lyrics or his vocal representations of such. I have see Tom Waits in concert and was completely blown away. I was there with my wife, who never really listened to him before, and she was very impressed. I can't wait until I can see him again! It's one thing to watch a Youtube video of Chocolate Jesus, but to see it performed live....that was something. Another thing I found was that Tom Waits doesn't just get up and belt out a few tunes. He tells stories which lead in and out of his songs and music.
