It's already been a (s)mashing week for 2008 festival lineup announcements and, to segue into a one-two hackneyed cliché/pun punch, when it rains, it pours—and when it pours, it's time to pull out a Bumbershoot!

The organizers of Seattle's Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival just revealed the first round of confirmed bands for the 38th annual shindig, to be held Aug. 30-Sept. 1 in the coastal city's 74-acre Seattle Center (check below for a list of who's on the bill so far). Three-day passes are currently on sale for the ridiculously low price of $80 (the cost increases to $100 after Aug. 15), while single-day passes will be available for $35/day starting July 15 (cost increases to $40 after Aug. 15). Visit the Bumbershoot website for info on special deals for the very old (65+ senior discounted tix) and the very young (children ages 6-10 can attend with a parent for just $15).

Outside of the musical events of the weekend, Bumbershoot hosts concurrent literary arts events (this year's program includes two of America's greatest graphic novelists, Daniel Clowes and Adrian Tomine), dance performances (including gravity-defying Australian circus-dance company Strange Fruit, pictured above, and a debut of puppeteer Basil Twist's latest production), comedy (lineup TBA) and Flatstock, the American Poster Institute's amazing traveling showcase of collectible rock 'n' roll posters and their (often supercool) creators.

Now that we've whet your whistle with all those enticing peripheral details, peep the partial lineup for this year's Bumbershoot:
